1. 掌握词汇:order, suit, smoothly, iron, in general, satisfy, need, virus, no longer, properly, complete, mess, lay, store, coin, bill, private, paper, spread, wheel。
词组:in general, in the end, a big company, too... to, have more free time, business suit, go shopping, as well, a delicious dinner, tidy up, do some reading, go wrong, catch a virus, no longer, make stupid mistakes, wake sb. up, in a mess, in the rubbish bin, all over the floor, knock over, do with, return to, too much trouble, in a complete mess。 句型:
(1)The robots made Mr. Jiang’s life much easier.
(2)When Mr. Jiang returned home from work, his flat would look as good as new.
(3)It seemed that in general the robot satisfied Mr. Jiang’s needs. (4)The robot caught a virus and no longer worked properly. (5)I don’t know what to do with it. ...

Step 1 Leading in
1. T: Hello, boys and girls. Today I’ll give you a chance to discuss robots. We know that robots can do many things for us such as cooking dinner, doing the laundry, looking after chil-dren and making the bed. Would you like to have a robot?
2. Explain the context of the reading passage. Daniel is really interested in robots. Now he is reading an interesting article called The robot at home.
Step 2 Presentation 1. Skimming.
Read through the passage and answer the following questions:
(1)Who has a robot in Sunshine Town? (Mr Jiang.)
(2)Why did he have to buy a robot? (Because he was always busy and had little time for his hobbies. /Because he wanted to have more free time.)
(3)Did the robot change Mr Jiang’s life a lot? (Yes, it did )
(4)What was wrong with the robot afterwards? (It caught a virus and caused a lot of prob-lems.)
(5)What did Mr Jiang do with the robot in the end? (He decided to return it to the robot shop.)
2. Scanning.
Read the passage again. Ask students to raise more questions to each other and then give an-swers. The teacher may advise them to ask some more questions about how the robot has changed Mr Jiang’s daily life.
E. g.: Who made breakfast and a lunch box for Mr Jiang? What did the robot do while Mr Jiang was at work? When did the robot usually wake Mr Jiang up?
What bad effects did the robot bring to Mr Jiang after it caught a virus? 3. Comparing.
Firstly, ask several students to retell the whole text. Then, ask students to pick out the ad-vantages and disadvantages of having a robot. At last, ask them to write down their answers in Part B2.
Answers for reference:
Good points :
Let us have more free time. Make our life much easier. Let us relax more.
Do much housework just like: make breakfast, iron the clothes, go shopping, make the bed, prepare a lunch box, etc.
Bad points :
If it catches a virus, it will cause lots of problems just like: wake us up at a wrong time; put food on the bed; store milk in the rubbish bin; spread coins, bills and papers all over the floor, and knock things over, etc.
Step 3 Practice
Ask students to read through the conversation between Millie and Daniel on P41. Then ask
them to write T or F according to the article they’ve learned before. Step 4 Language points
1. too ... to…太……而不能……
2. so that引导目的状语从句,后接从句,它可以和下面的句子进行转换。 e. g.:
She listens to English every day so that she can get good marks, (so that)
= She listens to English every day in order to get good marks. = She listens to English every day so as to get good marks, (so as to do)
=She listens to English every day in order that she can get good marks. (in order that+从句)
3. no longer“不再,再也不,今后不再”,指时间,多用于修饰某种具体状态,相当于not... any longer,其中any longer —般放在句末。如: I no longer go there.=I don’t go there any longer.
no more也用来表示“不再,再也不”,但是强调数量和程度,相当于not...any more。 There’s no more water. = There is not water any more.
4. in general:“总的来说,大体上”。
5. be happy with=be satisfied / pleased with“对……满意”。 6. wake sb. up“叫醒某人”。 7. in the end=at last = finally“最后”。
8. return sth. to sb.=give sth. back to sb.“将某物还给某人”。 9. decide to do sth.“决定做某事”。 Step 5 Homework 1. Recite the passage.
