Now I'm studying in the US,I find there are some differences between schools in the US and in Vietnam.
One big difference is the clothes students wear at school and how they look.In my country, all the students should wear uniforms when they go to school.Boys aren't allowed to have long hair.Girls aren't allowed to have long or
6
colored nails (指甲).
Another difference is about the rules for parents. In Vietnam, when we begin a new year, our parents have to go to a meeting in our class. If they don't go to that meeting, their children won't have grade or a report card from school.
However,in the US,there aren't such strict rules above.
In Vietnam,a class is only 45 minutes and we have only five classes each weekday. When the bell rings, all the students just sit in their classroom. They can't move to a different room, but students can in the US.
In Vietnam, students can't go to work because they can't find a job if they're under 18.But in the US,many students work after school. This helps them make money.More importantly, this helps them become more independent. They're able to do things by themselves in their own way, without asking other people for help.

A.America. B.The UK. C.China. D.Vietnam.
2.What are the girl students allowed to do in the writer's country?

An important question about eating out is who pays for the meal. If a friend of yours asks you to have lunch with him, you may say something like this,\"I'm afraid it'll have to be someplace cheap, as I have very little money.\" The other person may say,\"OK, I'll meet you at McDonald's.\"
This means that the two agree to go Dutch, that is, each person pays for himself. He may also say,\"Oh, no. I want to take you to lunch at Smith's,\" or\"I want you to try the Chinese dumplings there. They're great.\" This means the person wants to pay for both of you. If you feel friendly towards this person, you can go with him and you needn't pay for the meal. You may just say,\"Thank you. That would be very nice.\"
American customs(1) about who pays for dates(2) are much the same as in other parts of the world. In the old days, American women wanted men to pay for all the meals. But, today, a university girl or a woman in business world will usually pay her way during the day. If a man asks her for a dance outside the working hours, it means \"Come, as my guest(3).\" So as you can see, it is a polite thing to make the question clear at the very beginning.

A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)
Are you an eating-lover? Do you want to eat every delicious food in the world? Then do you watch the popular program A Bite of China? It’s a TV program on Chinese delicious food which has been produced by CCTV. Is there any holiday that isn’t celebrated with special festival food? Here are several traditional Chinese foods:
Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are as much a part of Chinese birthday celebration as a birthday cake with its candles lit in many western countries. Since noodles mean long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut it off. Although westerners sometimes may be very sorry to see fish lying on the plate, in China a whole fish is a symbol of richness. In fact, at a party it is a tradition to serve the whole fish last, pointed towards the most valued guest. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish, yu, sounds like the word for richness or plenty, and it is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the year to come. A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi. This tasty dish is made of rice dumplings with meat, peanuts or other delicious food in bamboo leaves. The tradition of Zongzi is meant to remind us of a great man, Qu Yuan in Chinese history.

the future? While express mail(快递) is a fast way to send your letters, there is another type of mail appearing(出现) in China as a new business—future mail. “The letter should be sent next Mother’s Day and not a day earlier!” Lin Xiaofan, a college student in Shanghai, tells one of the companies(公司) offering the service(服务). Lin Xiaofan wrote the letter to her mother nearly a year earlier to express her love to her mother for next Mother’s Day. “Offering this service makes people slow down and lets them understand the meaning of „time‟ in another way,” said Zheng Zhimin, manager at a “future mail” company. Zheng thinks “future mail” letters help remind(提醒,使想起) us of care, friendship and love. While “future mail” is becoming more and more popular, some people are wondering what will happen if the postal address changes or if the company goes broken before the letters arrive. Zheng said customers are glad to sign a contract(签订合同) to make sure that they can be compensated if their letters are lost or damaged. Most of the customers are college students and young white-collar(白领) workers. Psychologists (心理学家) said that young Chinese might have a new way to express their feelings through this service. Most people put their hopes and wishes in the letter so that they can experience the connection(联系) between the past and the present when they receive the letter.

“USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in?” We often hear such discussions. As
China opens its door, it is a dream for many Chinese students to study abroad. They want to learn about the outside world. It’s true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves.
Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs. But there are
problems that should be considered. Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time
learning another language. Students must also learn to live without parents’ care and deal with
all kinds of things they haven’t
had to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports
about Chinese students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When
they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well. Finally, studying abroad
brings a heavy burden

The person that I want to thank most
1. In my life, there are many people I should thank, but the one I want to thank most is my primary teacher, Ms Lin.
I used to be a problem child because of my parents’ divorce. Nobody cared about me except Ms Lin. Once, I had a high fever, she took me to her home to look after me carefully. She cooked me a delicious meal, while gave her own son noodles. I got well soon. From Ms Lin, I knew the world was still full of love.
It was Ms Lin who changed my life. She should be greatly appreciated. I will work hard to try to be her pride in return.
2. In my life, my mother is the person that I want to thank most.
My mother is a doctor. She is very busy but she cares much for me. Every
day, no matter how tired she is, she cooks meals for me and helps me with my study. Last term, I failed in the mid-term exam. So I was very sad about that and I stayed in my room alone, crying. When my mother came home from work late, she
21
talked to me for a long time and helped me realize my problems. That evening, when I woke up in the midnight, my mother was still working. I was deeply moved. Then, I made up my mind to study harder than before.
I will help my mother with the housework and make great progress in my study. I think she will be happy and she will be proud of me.
3. In my life, there are lots of people I want to thank, but the person I want to thank most is my mother.
I remember one day when I finished my class, it was raining heavily, I didn’t take an umbrella. But I saw my mother waiting outside with an umbrella when I got out of school. I was deeply moved. What a great mother she was! She had been waiting for me for almost an hour. I will study hard to return her and don’t let her down. When I grow up, I will learn to care for my mother. I hope she’ll be happy and healthy forever.
4.In my life, the person I want to thank most is Miss Xu, who was my English teacher at my middle school. Without her help, I couldn’t study English well.
When I just entered middle school, I was bored with English. Several days later, Miss Xu noticed that and talked to me softly after class, “Come on, boy! Cheer up! Your pronunciation is good…You can make it!” After that, tried to concentrate on her every lesson, and really I got one higher marks after another. I made me feel more confident.
22
Thank you, Miss Xu, for your encouragement. You’ll be appreciated forever.
Among so many people in my long life river, the person I want to thank most is my English teacher. She is a kind and easygoing woman with a pair of glasses that makes her a bit strict. When she knew I wasn’t rich, she began to take more care of me and give money I needed. Once I had trouble studying English, she encouraged me and said a lot to cheer me up, then I made great progress….
